History Of GSWA
Introduction
The Gopalganj Social Welfare Association (GSWA) was established to serve society through structured and sustainable social welfare initiatives. Guided by the ideals of the Liberation War, GSWA focuses on preserving Bengali cultural heritage, encouraging sports and healthy lifestyles, protecting the environment, and empowering communities through education, skills development, and awareness programmes.
Founders
The idea of GSWA was initiated by Kazi Harun Ar Rashid Miron, an IT consultant and former lecturer in the Department of Physics at Gopalganj Mahila College, after returning from a long professional life in the United States. He was joined by Professor Sardar Nurul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Bangabandhu Government College, along with a group of dedicated professionals and social activists, including Gazi Mostafizur Rahman Dipu, Advocate Utpal Das, Advocate Sardar Iftekhar Ahmed Bipu, and Sheikh Mahbub Ahmed Kuti.
Inauguration & Registration
The organisation was officially named Gopalganj Social Welfare Association on 25 October 2013 at a meeting held at Bangabandhu Government College, where Kazi Harun Ar Rashid Miron was appointed convenor and entrusted with member recruitment and drafting the constitution. GSWA began its formal operations on 21 June 2014 by holding a rally at the Bangabandhu College auditorium and also arranged a blood donation camp with the help of the Bangladesh Police Blood Bank. On this occasion, the then DMP Commissioner Mr Benazir Ahmed was the chief guest, and Habibur Rahman, SP of Dhaka, along with other locals, was the special guest and later received registration from the Department of Social Services under registration no. GOPA-823/14.
Development & Expansion
Over time, GSWA expanded with the involvement of respected individuals from various sectors, including Dr Chowdhury Shafikul Alam, Wing Commander (Rtd) Anisuzzaman Khan, Associate Professor Md Habibur Rahman, IT Consultant Mahfuza Romman Rashid, Advocate Haimanti Das, Advocate Shamsun Nahar, Principal Palash Kumar Biswas, Benazir Ahmed, Habibur Rahman, Dr. Amrita Lal Biswas and so on. The GSWA logo was designed and developed by Probir Sona, a prominent graphics designer.
Constitution & Organisation
The constitution of GSWA was prepared by Kazi Harun Ar Rashid Miron and Wing Commander (Retd.) Anisuzzaman Khan, which was approved by the members on 21 June 2014 at the AGM. Since its inception, GSWA has been working for the welfare of the people of Gopalganj through social responsibility, voluntary service, and community welfare initiatives. The organisation remains committed to continuing its efforts in promoting humanitarian values, social harmony, and sustainable development in the years to come.
